How to choose v2rayN, v2rayNG, or V2flyNG?
For V2Ray beginners, the first stuck point is often not “how to connect,” but “what to download.” GitHub has many repos and long package names; Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android mix together, so it’s easy to grab the wrong architecture or install a phone APK on a PC. Selection can be simple: match the OS first, then decide if you need a community build. This article clarifies how v2rayN, v2rayNG, and V2flyNG differ and which combo to use—then you can go straight to the download page.

Why picking the right client comes first
The wrong client makes every later step awkward—hunting for an exe from an Android APK, installing a Windows build on Apple Silicon Mac, or using an incomplete mod where subscription updates fail and you blame yourself. Correct selection can cut troubleshooting time in half.

What each one is
v2rayN is a cross-platform desktop GUI client covering Windows, macOS, and Linux. It shines at subscription management, latency tests, system proxy / Tun, smart routing, and multi-core switching. For desktop users who leave it running and open many apps at once, it’s the safest default.
v2rayNG is one of the most common Android V2Ray clients. It supports QR scan, clipboard import, subscription updates, and per-app routing. The UI is relatively light, and it’s often paired with v2rayN as the classic “PC + phone” setup.
V2flyNG also runs on Android and leans toward community maintenance. The feature outline is close to v2rayNG: import nodes, connect, grant VPN. Choose it if you specifically want the community build or your provider’s docs say V2flyNG; otherwise beginners should start with v2rayNG.
Desktop: Windows / macOS / Linux — choose v2rayN
If your device is a computer—Windows 10/11, Intel or Apple Silicon Mac, or a common Linux distro—go to the v2rayN download page. Use the platform filter at the top to jump quickly:
- Most Windows PCs: x64; ARM laptops: ARM64.
- macOS: M-series → arm64 dmg; Intel → x64 dmg.
- Linux: prefer zip for general use; Debian/Ubuntu can use deb.

Android: prefer v2rayNG, V2flyNG as alternative
For Android phones and tablets, download v2rayNG. Unsure of the device? Use the Universal APK; recent mainstream phones can also use the smaller ARM64-v8a build. Allow “unknown sources” to install, and grant VPN permission on first connect—that’s expected system behavior, not an error dialog.

Protocols, routing, and “good enough”
For everyday use, VMess, VLESS, Trojan, and Shadowsocks are covered by all three. What usually drives the experience isn’t the client name, but subscription stability, node availability, smart routing, and accurate local time.
On desktop, enable smart routing / bypass by default so local sites and apps go direct and only the rest uses the proxy—speed and login sessions stay more stable. On mobile, if per-app proxy is available, route browsers/video through the proxy and keep banking apps direct to reduce risk flags.
If your provider gives a subscription URL, all three can import it. QR codes are easiest on mobile; desktop can scan or paste from the clipboard too.
Common mistakes
- Looking for an APK on a PC. APK is the Android package; desktop needs v2rayN zip / dmg / deb.
- Wrong architecture. An Intel build on an M-series Mac, or x64 on Windows ARM, can fail to run or feel badly slow.
- Chasing “more features” mod builds. Unknown mods may add ads or malware—prefer this site’s download navigation.
- Installing many clients without learning one. Get one path working first: one client + one working subscription beats five unused apps.
What to do after you choose
After you choose, do three things: open the download page for the right package; finish install for your OS; import the subscription, test latency, and connect.
